He plays a good counter personality to Charles Bronson. As I was saying, this is a pushy movie. Each character pushes the other to the brink. Gauche pushes Link who pushes Kuroda Jubie who pushes back and some where in there, among the Indians and others Cristina just gets pushed around.

I always think of this movie when I am watching "The Maltese Falcon" (1941); the conversation between Sam Spade and Kasper Gutman where Sam insists that he can not be influence by the threat of death. If they killed him then they would not get the bird. Kasper says it takes a fine balance and not to push too hard, as there is no telling what a man may do in the heat of the moment and forget where his interests lie.

Well this film has a lot of heated moments and a lot of funny moments when the different cultures clash. This is definitely worth viewing.

The Values We Learn and Embrace
This is an interesting and amusing internationally co-produced Western directed loosely by Terence Young. Charles Bronson (outlaw) teams with Toshiro Mifune (samurai warrior) in search of spoils, honor and Alain Delon (gambling con man). Ursula Andress and Capucine provide the major love interests. The highlight of this film is the quixotic relationship between outlaw Bronson and the samurai Mifune, each brandishing their own code of loyalty and honor, as they realize new values from their uneasy partnership. Another highlight is Maurice Jarre's lively score integrating Eastern and Western musical idioms. This is a very entertaining film and which gets its inspiration from the Italian Westerns that were beginning to disappear into the sunset at the time of this film's release.

About Red Sun [Import] detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #105603 in DVD

Formats: Import, NTSC, Full Screen

Original language: English

Subtitled in: Portuguese

Number of discs: 1

Running time: 112 minutes

Product Description

In what was billed as "The First East-Meets-West Western," Toshiro Mifune plays Kuroda, a samurai warrior who accompanies a Japanese diplomat to the United States. The diplomat has brought with him a golden, jewel-encrusted sword to present as a token of good will to the president, but as they travel by train through the west, they're ambushed by a pair of outlaws, Gauche (Alain Delon) and Link (Charles Bronson). Gauche and Link steal the sword, but Link leans the hard way about his partner's trustworthiness when Gauche double-crosses him and makes off with the booty. Since both Kuroda and Link have a grudge against Gauche, they warily join forces to track him down and return the sword to its rightful owner. Along the way, they have to deal with cultural conflict, Indian attacks, and encounters with beautiful women (played by Capucine and Ursula Andress). Given its cast and theme, Red Sun was predictably enough a major box office success in Europe and Japan, but it passed through with little notice in the United States.

Amazon
Price:

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/858823940X/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
I would be grateful if you would give me the Interview
Cheers !.

Merry Christmas from Harmony Ranch

Merry Christmas from Harmony Ranch

Have a nice time i find Merry Christmas from Harmony Ranch I will think This Interesting ,and you can see that
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Classic Cowboy Christmas - nothing could be better!
hey - this is Riders in the Sky we're talking about - do they do anything that isn't great?! I read it and tried to like it, but it just isn't written very well. The subject matter is fascinating, but the author could have done so much more. It really felt like a high school student could have written it. Nothing, not characters or plot or anything, were developed very well. Very disappointing.

September Dawn
September Dawn by Carole Whang Schutter is in my opinion a Romeo and Juliet type novel, two nineteen year olds fell in love and would let nothing come between them. It is not just a love story mind you, it is about the Mountain Meadow Massacre in the year 1857. Based on some true events, and even turned into a movie, September Dawn is out to show the truth of what may have happened over 150 years ago between two religions.

Jonathan Samuelson was the son of a Mormon Bishop and the girl he was head over heels in love with was the daughter of a Christian Pastor. Now you know back in the day these two religions could not mix without a huge uprising. And the Mountain Meadow Massacre was a huge uprising! With the journals now in hand, the story must be told to all of the family that will listen in hopes that they will uncover and understand what exactly happened in Utah so many years ago.

September Dawn was a book that really gets you thinking, I don't know what I would have done if I were put in some of these positions had I lived back in the year 1857. Love is love and you can't help who you fall in love with. Sometimes the book was a bit slow to keep my attention, although it all came together at the very end. 3.5 Hearts

Fascinating story - wonderfully told!
I rented the movie from Blockbuster & really enjoyed it so I read the book. There were a few minor changes in the movie that I would have preferred to have followed the book more closely; most notably the lead female character. She was much more developed in the book. I suppose time may have been a factor in the movie.
I found the story fascinating & it was very well told. Clearly a lot of research went into this.

About September Dawn detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #76017 in eBooks

Published on: 2007-09-28

Released on: 2007-09-28

Format: Kindle Book

Number of items: 1

Product Description

On September 11, 1857, the first act of religious terrorism in the United States took place in Utah when a group of fanatical Mormons massacred a prosperous wagon train of 120 settlers from Arkansas and Missouri on their way to California. Driven by a despotic Brigham Young who thundered chilling messages of Blood Atonement from the pulpit, the faithful committed polygamy, murder and castration in the name of God. Based on one of America's most horrific historical events, this is the story of the improbable romance between two nineteen-year-olds from starkly different worlds, the son of a Mormon Bishop, and the daughter of a Christian pastor. In a beautiful, pristine valley called Mountain Meadows, Jonathan, tormented by the execution of his beautiful mother by a lecherous Apostle, falls in love with beautiful, spirited Emily. Ordered to spy on the wagon train by his father, Jonathan tames a magnificent wild black stallion and wins the heart of the girl who has captured his. The tension builds to a crescendo with the growing conflict between Jonathan and his father Jacob. Fanatically wedded to the cause, Jacob believes in the righteousness of the atrocity commanded by the Prophet and the leaders of the Mormon Church. Another victim of the tragedy is Jonathan's beloved brother, good-natured Micah, who self-destructs in the process of becoming a mass murderer. In the midst of the massacre, Jonathan must choose between his brother and his faith, or Emily. As Jonathan races to save Emily before September Dawn, the reader is left breathless with heart-pounding anticipation as the scope and magnitude of their love amidst the searing fire and ashes of the Mountain Meadow Massacre dramatically, and unforgettably, unfolds.

List Price:

$19.95

Amazon
Price:

$9.99

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00140ITTO/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
Hope you guys had a great weekend
Cheers

Stranger On Horseback

Stranger On Horseback

We are interested in the Lastest model of Stranger On Horseback Yes, I think that interesting .
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Classic Louie Lamour Story
Admittedly, I am not a Joel McCrea fan by any means. I do snap up any films based on stories from Louie Lamour and this film was classic Lamour. Joel McCrea did a good job with his character and that says a lot when you consider that I have never been a fan of this particular actor. John Carradine was fantastic as always and much younger in this film.

The quality of this DVD was poor. The original film negative was lost at some point in time and this DVD was produced off a copy of a film that survived. Dispite being "remastered" there are fluctuations in color and film quality from scene to scene with a heavy emphasis on the red hues which I found to be distracting.

Stranger on Horseback
Thank you to company to release this rare western.

This novel was released in 1936 and was also made into the 1937 movie BLACK ACES starring Buck Jones, with his white horse Silver, and Kay Linaker. It was a black and white production running approximately 58 minutes. A copy can be ordered from Alpha Video through Amazon.

"RANCHER DRYCULCHED!" page 11

The plot is pretty simplistic, a group of semi-vigilantes known as the Black Aces gang are squeezing money from a group of ranchers, with instructions to obey their demands to the letter, or they will die. All this comes to them in the form of an introductory letter with an enclosed black ace. When their demands are not met, and they kill, a black ace is always left on the body.

As it turns out several outstanding figures of Sweetwater are involved exhibiting a tight control on the flow of money throughout the valley. They don't shy away from asking between $10,000 to $20,000 dollars for the priviledge of continuing to live. They are ruthless and will shoot to kill or steal from anyone to further their diabolical desire for enrichment.

"THE BLACK ACES ARE MORE THAN STRONG ENOUGH TO ENFORCE THEIR DEMANDS AND UTTLERLY RUTHLESS." page 44

So see the movie, read the book, as either will provide the interested viewer or reader with entertainment a plenty.

"TAKE HEED ALL RANCHERS AND OTHERS WHO HAVE RECEIVED AND WHO WILL YET RECEIVE OUR INTRODUCTORY CARD. OBEY TO THE LETTER OUR ORDERS....OR SUFFER.
OBEY AND BE SAFE...FAIL TO OBEY AND DIE!" page 44

Great western entertainment from the year 1936.

Semper Fi.

Classic Western
In case you're wondering what the book is about...
Tedro Ames has lost his ranch and his sweetheart to his devil-may-care antics. He must either redeem himself, or resign himself to a future as the laughing stock of the Swiftwater area.
A gang of ruthless blackmailers is terrorizing the town and leaving black aces with their ransom notes. Tedro gets a "Black Ace," and when he meets up with another black ace victim, blacksmith Henry Kline, he knows what he must do. He'll prove himself worthy of his neighbors and of his love by unmasking the "Black Ace" Gang.

About Black Aces (Western) detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #6302924 in Books

Published on: 2005-07-30

Format: Large Print

Original language: English

Number of items: 1

Binding: Hardcover

240 pages

Amazon
Price:

$27.95 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Details

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/1585476153/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
Bye Bye
Cheers and Care

Jonathan

Jonathan

<img src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/nav2/dp/no-image-no-ciu._SL210_V46836203_.gif" 192" border="0"/>

Have a nice time i find Jonathan You can see Now!
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

JOHNNY GUITAR: A Freudian western.
Master's theses could be-- and probably have been --written about this
movie. It's impossible to watch it and not end up quoting one line
after another. ("Well, if it isn't Mr. Logan, all dressed up and
looking mighty dangerous" will do for starters.) Mercedes McCambridge
comes close to walking away with the film, as the repressed Emma
Small. Vienna (Joan Crawford) explains the effect that the Dancing Kid (Scott Brady) has on Emma: "He makes her feel like a woman, and that frightens her." Symbolism
is rife, to say the least, in this Rorschach test of a film, but the viewer can forget all that and
just enjoy a good, entertaining western, spiced by Ernest Borgnine
in one of his juiciest villain roles.

An American Great
One of the better American movies I've ever seen, I both laughed and cried the last time I watched "Johnny Guitar".

A "western" of sorts, this great story pits Sterling Hayden and Joan Crawford --- both of whom represent a new, more liberal, social order --- against Mercedes McCambridge and the forces of conservatism, reaction and the old order. While the story works on several different levels --- it is, for example, an allegorical tale of (i) the age-old struggle between new and old ideas, between new and old forms of social life, and (ii) the struggle against McCarthyism --- the quality of the writing, acting and cinematography is such that it can be enjoyed on its "surface" level as well.

This is a fantastic movie which should be required viewing for every American young person. It is, in my opinion, as stimulating, edifying and significant as many of our best works of literature, such as, for example, "The Scarlet Letter".

this is not a love song
This is the Original Brokeback Mountain...! With none other than Miss Joan Crawford, super-butch (or superbitch?) Mercedes McCambridge and all those sexy cowboys with their low-hanging, droopy... ...holsters, "Johnny Guitar" has become, overtime, an iconic reference in g-a-y popular culture. It's like watching a p-o-r-n-o from the 1950's! One of my favorite lines (Bart saying to Johnny) is, "open your mouth cowboy and I'll feed you." I can almost hear The Charlie Daniels Band saying, "sit down in that chair and let me show you how it's done" every time I watch this part! ...I love it, because like this entire Republic Pictures feature film, it's so very ticklishly grand...!! Simply put: "Johnny Guitar" is as scrumptious and titillating as Dallas, Melrose Place and The Golden Girls!!

Why isn't Johnny Guitar on DVD, yet? I don't understand; what are they waiting for? Fortunately, it's at least on home-video. And, it does come on television often; usually on TCM or Encore Western. But wouldn't it be great if the powers that be were to release a special edition boxed set? They could even interview some of the remaining cast. I know that Ben Cooper is still very much alive. Although, sadly Ms. McCambridge passed away 4 years ago (at the age of 87.) ...Keep in mind, the DVD on this page is non-region specific disc from South Korea, which includes both English and Korean subtitles, however it's very easy to turn them off. And this DVD will certainly play fine on a regular region 1 player. It's distributed by company called "YDM DVD Video." I'm very happy with this DVD because it's the next best thing to having a special edition/boxed set.

Joan really is the actress of the 20th Century, and beyond... In the 1950's during a boring time in her career (this movie is smack-dab in the middle of Torch Song and the even more obscure, "Female On The Beach") she decided to re-invent herself as a western rebel in "Johnny Guitar." However I hate to admit it, but "Johnny Guitar" is one of those incredibly rare Joan Crawford movies that I would have thoroughly munched on even if she weren't in it!

Oh, before I forget, here's the particulars of this cult-classic:
Johnny Guitar (May 27, 1954) (Studio: Republic)
Distributor: Paramount (Although correct me if I'm wrong, but I honestly believe that Turner/Warner Home Video has their hand in just about all of Joan's films, even those that aren't from the MGM or Warners libraries.)
Director: Nicholas Ray
Runtime Listing: 110 mins
Color/BW: Color (Trucolor)
(Joan played: Vienna)
Brief Synopsis:
A lady saloon owner battles a female rancher out to frame her for murder.

And here's the main cast (actually, these are my favorites, from the main cast!:)
Joan Crawford ~ The Star of the Show ~ Vienna
Mercedes McCambridge ~ Emma Small
Sterling Hayden ~ Johnny 'Guitar' Logan
Scott Brady ~ Dancin' Kid
Ben Cooper ~ Turkey Ralston
Ernest Borgnine ~ Bart Lonergan
Royal Dano ~ Corey
Frank Ferguson ~ Marshal Williams

"Johnny Guitar" is actually based on a novel by Roy Chanslor and is undisputedly the granddaddy of the Female Western Film, because it proudly serves as the original prototype of this genre. It's also a little known-fact that there really was a real Johnny "Guitar!" Johnny "Guitar" Watson was a well-known musician, who adopted his moniker after he saw Sterling Hayden play the title-role. Although, that's really where the similarities end.

...Vienna, a saloon owner of the Old Wild-West is just as tough and heavy-fisted as the men that frequent her establishment. Vienna's nemesis is the (almost) equally-equipped Emma Small. Emma wants to run Vienna out of town because she believes that she is a wanton woman that was behind her brother's death.

Ms. McCambridge was such an understated actress; I'm not sure why. Needless to say, I really enjoyed her in this movie. And, I loved those stare-downs that Emma gave Vienna. Emma looked at her like she was some finger-lickin' good tender-vittles! Perhaps, the real reason why Emma loathed Vienna so much was because Vienna wasn't interested. Vienna was hungry for meat, not flesh! But really, wasn't Emma totally digging Vienna like she was a bowl of fancy-fiest...? I honestly think that Joan, oops, I mean Vienna (wink wink) was not into chicks. She didn't swing that way (now the boys in this picture, that's a different story.) Maybe she patted a few bottoms and was a little touchy-feely, but that was about it.

This movie has many important messages, subtexts, subplots and perhaps even some hidden meanings. IMHO if you're watching "Johnny Guitar" and miss some of this, then you're really missing a big part of the element of this film. ...The battle of good over evil... The battle to be the alpha male... ...Trying just to fit in and be accepted... ...The socioeconomic division between Emma and Veinna's "gangs"... But, the main message that I learned, is that a gun and a woman with (severe) sexual-frustration is a very dangerous mix!

Perhaps the biggest difference between Emma and Vienna was that Emma was a nut, and Vienna was not. ...Instead, there really was something about Vienna that was so primal and perhaps even bent because I picked up that she was distraught, lonely and even desperate, at times. You could almost see her lip quivering as she barked out orders to her boys. She was also terrified of losing control. Perhaps, Vienna mimicked Joan. Frankly, I have always believed that at least a couple of Joan's hubbies had some sugar in their respected tanks which only made her more starved for a little bit of attention and affection. I'm sure she spent many nights alone, hating herself. Joan was the type of woman that loved being around other people and was petrified of being alone. She wasn't a picky lady; she just wanted to hear a heartbeat. What's wrong with that? Only a very cold person who is incapable of any type of real human emotion could not relate to her; Vienna and Joan, respectively.

Over the past sixty years, it's been intimated that there was a personal rivalry between Miss Crawford and Bette Davis. I have no idea if that's true or not, but I am certain of one thing; the personal hatred between Joan and Ms. McCambridge was very real (not to mention surreal!) And, that's what made their characters so absorbing and amusing. Anyone looking at them shoot each other down could tell that they each had pure spite in their eyes. Both ladies were desperately jealous of each other (both on the silver screen and off!) Remember, back in '54, Mercedes was still considered a young ing'enue who was hot after her Oscar win; I bet Joan wanted to wrap that nude golden-statue around her flabby little neck!

I also enjoyed Sterling Hayden and the legendary Mr. Ernest Borgnine. Both men were amazing actors (actually, Mr. Borgnine still is!) who are total geniuses when it comes to the theatrical arts. But another actor in this movie that I adored (at least more than any of the other guys,) is little Ben Cooper. Wasn't Turkey so adorable? He looked almost like the love-child of Jason Priestly and Jimmy Dean! I love how he'd try to play tough so the other big-boys would play with him; prompting Vienna to hiss, "that's pretty good Turkey, for a boy" in a condescending and hateful tone. ...What wound up happening to him was tragic because Emma only used Turkey for her own selfish need for self-gratification. But wasn't it funny watching Emma goad Turkey into "outing" Vienna. Did you notice that huge smile on Emma's face (as her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree) while she was trying to get Turkey to fess up? This woman was loving every second of it! And, frankly, so was I! (BTW, I included some pics of Ben Cooper from this movie on this page since I had a lot of difficulty find others, elsewhere.)

...Joan was a very kind woman who always looked out for her family, friends and fans. But, she could also be very competitive, especially where another woman was concerned. ...While filming the pickup scenes, Joan felt that Mercedes was getting away with murder. So what does she do? Joan runs into Mercedes' dressing room and cuts up her costumes in a blinding, seething rage! Hell hath no fury like Miss Crawford PO'd! Of course, no one had the balls to tell Miss Crawford to calm down! Although, Miss Crawford never publicly "dissed" Ms. McCambridge (or any of her colleagues, because that was totally unprofessional and a big no-no as far as she was concerned,) her counterpart was always more than happy to badmouth Joan to anyone who would listen, stating that she was, "a mean, tipsy, powerful, rotten-egg lady." Powerful is right!

Can we talk a little about the colors and the apparel chosen for this film? I really believe the colors were very symbolic. Did you notice Emma was dressed in green when she first confronted Vienna who had that monochromatic blouse on! And, I loved those cute bows (or are they ascots?) that Joan wore because it reminded everyone that even though she was the leader of the pack, after all is said and done, she was still, just a girl! I especially love the scene when Vienna was playing the piano, wearing that floor-length white gown. And did you see how she was playing the piano, she was so in to it! It was just so outrageous and in-your-face! It was like she was having this intense o-r-g-a-s-i-m (it's too bad Emma wasn't around, I'm sure she would have loved to have been a part of it.) Total narcissistic entertainment! The costumes for the boys didn't change much. I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing sexier than watching a manly man strut around in a cowboy hat and skin-tight pants! And I loved that black funeral ensemble that Emma wore with the veil. So over-the-top and dramatic!! Wasn't it so funny watching her run around dressed like this with her gun in hand, ordering her boys to go after Vienna!

Another aspect (and perhaps a cause?) of the rivalry between Emma and Vienna (not to mention Joan and Ms. McCambridge!) was that both ladies were vying to be the almighty Queen Bee. And, although one can attempt to try, in the end it's futile because you just can't fit two Queen Bees inside a hive packed with men! And no matter how careful you are, no matter what happens, if you screw with the Queen Bee you'll always wind up getting stung! I absolutely adore the part in the beginning of the film where Vienna is standing on the stairs, in her saloon, and Emma says to her "I'm going to kill you" and Vienna says without flinching, "if I don't kill you first..." Wasn't Emma's voice so terrifying? She's was more scarier than Bea Arthur, Leona Helmsley and Ms. Barbra Streisand all put together! (BTW it's no coincidence that Ms. McCambridge was the voice of The Exorcist , although, the poor thing had to turn around and sue just to get billed for this!) ...If I was a gambler, I'd put my money on Joan to win this barroom brawl! Because Joan's the Best of the West...!

Some of my favorite lines from this picture:

Vienna (to Johnny, after the bank holdup): You don't know her, I do.

Emma (to Vienna:) You're just a railroad tramp.

Vienna (to Turkey after he asks her what he should do when Emma & co. catch him:) Save yourself.

Emma (to Vienna:) Look at you staring down at us with that gun.

Emma (said to the Marshall and his men when no one will come forward to hang Vienna:) I will pay $100 to any man.

Vienna (to Emma's crew:) I've never done anything to hurt any of you, don't make me do anything now.

Turkey (said to Vienna in a very meek voice after he was badly injured:) Help me.

Vienna (said to Emma when none of the other boys will come forward and hang Vienna:) You're going to have to do it yourself Emma.

The Marshal (said to Emma after she asks him why they aren't racing to Vienna's to take her prisoner:) You have 5 years of hate, you can give my boys 5 hours.

I really love how the movie ended. It was just so dramatic, especially when the theme-song played and so beautiful, too. I think my favorite part was watching Vienna and Johnny kiss beneath the waterfall. It was so romantic.

This film was originally billed as "Joan's Greatest Triumph." I certainly don't know if I'd agree with that and I'm certain that if Miss Crawford could speak to us from up above she would thoroughly disagree with this assessment. Some fans have referred to "Johnny Guitar" as "Mildred Pierce with a Gun." But if Joan could hear them now she'd slap anyone silly for daring to mention her defining-film in the same breath as this one! Joan was always ashamed of "Johnny Guitar" and felt it disgraced her long and impressive film-resume, and sadly, she never forgave herself for making it. In the late 70's, when reflecting on her life and accomplishments, Miss Crawford could only remember her failures when asked about this feature film, "I should have had my head examined. No excuse for a picture being this bad or for me making it." (I love those quotes by the way, because it only makes me want to watch this movie even more!) But I am certain of one thing, if Joan is watching us above in heaven, she would be very pleased to know that there is an entirely new generation of fans who are totally turned on to "Johnny Guitar" and more importantly, to her!

So, go on and watch "Johnny Guitar!"

...You know you want to!

I bet you'll have a g-a-y ole time...!

About Jonathan detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #77795 in DVD

Amazon
Price:

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013OL03I/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
Cheers and have a GREAT day!
Cheers

Buffalo Gal

Buffalo Gal

Have a nice time i find Buffalo Gal Yes, I think that interesting .
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Reviewed by Cynthia Murphy for Breeni Books
The middle of winter might not seem like the best time for a book set in Buffalo, New York, but Laura Pederson's Buffalo Gal is definitely worth reading any time of year. Pederson's childhood makes for a hilarious memoir, and the setting is a key element. Buffalo's harsh climate shaped Pederson's life in interesting ways. If you live in the South, her recollections of Buffalo during the energy crisis of the 1970s will also make you grateful for the milder climate.

Buffalo Gal is truly laugh out loud funny. Pederson begins her story with an account of her first visit to the American Stock Exchange. In all of its chaos, she finds her calling. Something about the crazy atmosphere feels right to the fourteen year old Laura. It turns out that her own wacky childhood was the perfect preparation for her dream job.

Laura Pederson describes her childhood through surprisingly unsentimental eyes. In her own witty way, she recounts growing up as the only child in a somewhat dysfunctional household. Her mother worked as a psychiatric nurse, and her father served as a court reporter. Pederson's family is an interesting blend of Irish and Scandinavian heritage. Both sides provide their fair share of dark humor throughout the book. Pederson's childhood was unconventional to say the least. Her mother went back to school and became a nurse at a time when most mothers stayed home. Every description of her father features the huge cloud of smoke surrounding his head. He is a chain smoker who is never without a cigarette. Pederson's grandmother was an early version of the modern day trader, and her immigrant grandfather worked as a popular waiter. This colorful family left Laura to entertain herself most of the time. She was a very independent child. By the time her parents separated, it didn't effect her daily life.

One of my favorite people in Pederson's life story is her eighth grade social studies teacher, Peter Heffley. Pete is a larger than life character, sort of her own personal Auntie Mame. Pederson formed a lifelong friendship with Pete and spent a lot of her free time with him. The time with Pete provides an escape from her crazy family. Pete is probably the most colorful character in Pederson's childhood and certainly the most entertaining.

The setting is the key element in Buffalo Gal. Most of Pederson's memories involve the harsh winters, fierce blizzards, and brief but beautiful summers. She also captures the decline of the area in an interesting way. Pederson tells her own story and the story of her hometown. As she was growing up, Buffalo dealt with an energy crisis and dwindling jobs. Pederson's witty style keeps lends a surprisingly upbeat tone to a rather sad story. Despite the fact that she left Buffalo for college and never returned as a resident, it is clear that Laura Pederson loves her hometown. At times, Buffalo Gal seems like a love letter to the Buffalo of her youth.

Parts of Laura Pederson's story feel familiar to me, and I am definitely not a "Buffalo gal." Her depiction of life as an only child rings true. I guess I'm a bit biased since I'm an only child of Irish descent. I could also relate to her struggles with her pale complexion. Her account of working at a summer camp and the subsequent sunburns, bug bites, and chaos is one of the funniest parts of this book. (This is probably funnier to those of us who can get a sunburn by simply looking at the sun, but it really is hilarious.)

Buffalo Gal is the story of Laura Pederson's childhood, but it is also the story of Buffalo's decline. She frames her own with the story of her hometown. It is a story that rings true for many residents of the Midwest in the 1970s. What sets Buffalo Gal apart is its humor. Pederson's sharp, witty style makes the otherwise sad story fun. This memoir is more humor and social history than anything else. If you like to laugh out loud, this is a great book to curl up with on a dreary winter day. Unless you live in Buffalo- then you may want to wait for summer.

Jean Shepherd for the tail end of the baby boom
This was an unexpected find. I will admit I hadn't heard about Laura Pedersen and I picked this up just because it sounded interesting. It is a wonderful and entertaining memoir of growing up in Buffalo in the 60s and 70s (but you don't need to be from Buffalo, or a cold climate, or have grown up in the 60s or 70s to enjoy it). I have always had a soft spot for Jean Shepherd (A Christmas Story, Phantom of the Open Hearth, etc.) and this is like Jean Shepherd for another era. I will definitely be reading more of Pedersen's books!

WOW! Memory Lane!
Laura Pederson,

I just received your book as a gift and I was understandably curious.
Then in the initial perusal, I laughed out loud at several random paragraphs. I wanted to whiz through it and also savor it, as well.

You placed me in a time warp. I grew up in Buffalo, in Tonawanda, in the 50s and 60s, and you placed me back there in a nanosecond, or in a single paragraph. With your vivid descriptions, I could see the Friday night fish fry that was so large it covered the entire plate, feel the heavy with allergies evening summertime breeze, and smell the winter-wet clothing in a pile near the basement door where we put our mittens, hats, coats and boots, and then put them on again after the hot chocolate. I remember the sound of the can when the kids in the neighborhood played kick the can way into the evening, the effort of the car engine as it rocked back and forth trying to get out of a snowpile, and the sound of chains on the tires in the snow.

Now I know what to get my childhood friends for their next gift!

You uncorked my laughter and my memories. Thank you for your vivid, on-target descriptions, your perceptive insight, and for your incredible and inspiring resilience.

About Buffalo Gal detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #69070 in Books

Published on: 2008-10-31

Original language: English

Number of items: 1

Binding: Paperback

256 pages

Product Description

Growing up in the snowblower society of Buffalo, New York, Laura Pedersen s first words were most likely turn the wheel into a skid. Like many families subsisting in the frigid North during the energy crisis, the Pedersens feared rising prices at the gas pump, argued about the thermostat, fought over the dog to stay warm at night, and often slept in their clothes. While her parents were preoccupied with surviving separation and stagflation, daughter Laura became the neighborhood wild child, skipping school, playing poker, betting on the horses, and trading stocks. Learning how to beat the odds, by high school graduation Pedersen was well prepared to seek her fortune on Wall Street, becoming the youngest person to have a seat on the American Stock Exchange and a millionaire by age 21. Combining laugh-out-loud humor with a slice of social history her hometown was a flash point for race riots, antiwar protests, and abortion rallies, not to mention bingo, bowling, and Friday night fish fries Pedersen paints a vivid portrait of an era.

List Price:

$15.00

Amazon
Price:

$10.20 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Details

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/1555916929/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
Bye Bye
Cheers and Care

Outland

Outland

We are interested in the Lastest model of Outland from amazon website you can see now
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Warner Bros. The DVD, however, stinks. This was one of the first DVDs released in the mid-1990s and over ten years later they still haven't done a decent remastering job on this. They just repackaged the DVD with a new cover! They even say that this is "Enhanced for widescreen TVs". It's not - it's just letterboxed. This is basically unwatchable. In fact, with all the juddering and shimmering it's worse than VHS. Avoid.

Excellent movie, mediocre DVD
Outland is an above-average early-1980s sci-fi Western that benefited from smart casting.

Unfortunately, the 1997 and 2007 DVD releases of Outland suffered from lackluster transfer -- grainy, distorted images and letterboxed widescreen.

The February 2008 DVD release seems to be marginally less grainy and distorted. However, the color intensity and resolution are still not quite up to par with present-day movie transfers. Low-light scenes suffer from fading and graininess which may become especially apparent on large screens. On smaller widescreen TVs (under 30 inches), filmed signs and lettering are acceptably crisp but post-production titles and captions remain blurred.

I have always liked Outland because it relied more upon mature characters (including a tough female country doctor) to tell the story, and resisted the temptation in Hollywood to fall back upon gun-blazing mayhem conducted by inexperienced young rookies. I continue to hope the studios find a way to produce a fully restored version of the film.

About Outland detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #24695 in DVD

Brand: Warner Brothers

Released on: 2008-02-28

Rating: R (Restricted)

Format: NTSC

Running time: 109 minutes

Product Description

Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 02/28/2008 Run time: 109 minutes Rating: R

List Price:

$14.97

Amazon
Price:

$13.49 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Details

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019BI1DM/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
Hope you guys had a great weekend
Cheers

101 Arena Exercises: A Ringside Guide for Horse & Rider

101 Arena Exercises: A Ringside Guide for Horse & Rider

This day I'll introduce you about 101 Arena Exercises: A Ringside Guide for Horse & Rider You can see Now!
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Great Book
This is a great arena book with work plans to help the rider plan lessons etc. easy to understand and well displayed for while you are riding in you arena. hang it up and you can refer to it with ease. The exercises would be difficult in many cases for the rider using a true forward seat hunt saddle unless the stirrups were legthened A LOT.

Very handy for a rider working at home without regular lessons.

About 101 Arena Exercises: A Ringside Guide for Horse & Rider detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #187332 in Books

Published on: 1995-01-09

Original language: English

Number of items: 1

Binding: Plastic Comb

224 pages

Product Description

This ringside exercise book is a favorite of riding instructors and enthusiasts. According to Clint Eastwood, the film's star and director, it "summarizes everything I feel about the western." And it is a fine western film, filled with fascinating characters, exciting gunfights, and beautiful choreography. The story itself is fascinating, though it is a bit slow and uneven in some places.
Clint Eastwood gives what is arguably his best performance as Bill Munny, a former gunslinger and cold-blooded killer, who's changed his ways, but agrees to collect one more bounty in order to support his two children. We see how violence can corrupt a human being, and how past demons can truly eat at him, and Eastwood plays this perfectly. Morgan Freeman, one of my all-time favorites, gives another terrific performance as Ned Logan, Munny's old partner. Gene Hackman is brutal, but also scarily likable, as the villainous Little Bill Daggett, the corrupt sheriff of the town. It isn't hard to see why he won an Oscar for his performance. The rest of the cast turn in solid performances as well, and help to keep the story both interesting and involving.
Overall, "Unforgiven" is a fine, if slow and uneven, entry into the genre with great performances and well-done gunfights. Fans of western and drama alike will find much to enjoy in this modern-day western.
Movie/DVD Grade: B+

About Unforgiven [HD DVD] detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #32762 in DVD

Brand: Warner Brothers

Released on: 2006-05-23

Rating: R (Restricted)

Aspect ratio: 2.40:1

Formats: Anamorphic, Color, Dolby, Subtitled, Widescreen

Original language: English, French, Spanish

Subtitled in: English, French, Spanish

Dubbed in: French, Spanish

Number of discs: 1

Dimensions: 3.00 pounds

Running time: 131 minutes

Product Description

Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired, down-on-their-luck outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty offered by the vengeful prostitutes of the remote Wyoming town of Big Whiskey. I saw this in the theatre many years ago when it was released and never forgot it. I has an incredible music score and just some of the best dynamics of any western.
Bill A.

Three stars: one for the film and two for John Wayne
I notice that negative reviews for Rio Lobo get a lot of unhelpful votes. Probably from die-hard John Wayne fans. Well, I'm a John Wayne fan and I thought this was a mediocre film. Except for Wayne, the acting is almost comical, especially from the three women in the cast. Wayne had already received his Best Actor Oscar, but Howard Hawks didn't need to surround him with novice actors to prove he deserved it. (I say novice instead of bad because several cast members learned their craft and went on to build respectable careers.) Jack Elam appears to be about the only one who deserves to share the screen with Wayne.

Another irritant: Rio Lobo is like two movies. The first part takes place during the civil war and has some great action sequences and is highly entertaining. The second part makes you wince at the dialogue, character development, and plot.

Rio Lobo proves that John Wayne can't carry a movie all by himself. He still needs a good script and experienced actors.
The Shut Mouth Society
The Shopkeeper

A later Waynestern with some well done confrontations
A pretty good Waynestern from 1970. While Wayne was ill during the filming of this movie, he hides it pretty well. His Col. Cord McNally is the hero of the movie, but not its romantic lead. The running joke is his being "comfortable" for the women in the movie. The romantic lead goes to Jorge Rivero as Capt. Pierre Cordona (Wayne calls him Frenchy). Jennifer O'Neill is the female lead and is OK, but delivers her lines a bit awkwardly. For my money Susana Dosamentes as Maria Carmen and Sherry Lansing (yes, the later head of 20th Century Fox) as Amelita are more convincing. Be that as it may, it is a good story and a very enjoyable film.

The story opens with Wayne and his Union troops waiting for a gold shipment. However, some Confederate Raiders know about the shipment and have a rather elaborate scheme to steal to gold as they have in previous shipments. Wayne pursues the Raiders, is captured and gets to know Cordona and Tuscadora Phillips (Christopher Mitchum). Wayne finds a way to turn the tables and after the war is over he meets up with Cordona and Tuscadora again to find out who the traitor was that tipped them off about the gold shipments. They give him what they know and Wayne helps them with some resources to get home.

Later, Cordona and McNally meet with Shasta Delany (O'Neill) when she involves them in a shootout as she is trying to escape from some obviously crooked lawmen. It turns out that she is from the border town where Tuscador lives and it is being run by a very bad man named Ketcham (Victor French). McNally, Cordona, and Shasta head to Rio Lobo to help their Tuscadora. Along the way they also meet Tuscadora's father (played wonderfully by Jack Elam) and a great confrontation is set up that takes the rest of the film. Quite a good Western, I think (my son calls them Waynesterns).

Watch for the Wanted poster for Hondo Lane when the action turns around the Sheriff's Office.

Recommended!

Reviewed by Craig Matteson, Ann Arbor, MI

About Rio Lobo detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #7761 in DVD

Brand: Paramount

Released on: 2003-04-29

Rating: G (General Audience)

Aspect ratio: 1.85:1

Formats: Anamorphic, Closed-captioned, Color, Dolby, DVD-Video, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC

Original language: English, French

Subtitled in: English

Number of discs: 1

Running time: 114 minutes

Product Description

After the civil war a union colonel goes to rio lobo to take revenge on two traitors. And if Clay was as bad off from his injuries, how did he manage to suddenly ride into town when 48 hours before he was near death?

I really wanted to like this book. If you are looking for an appealing, old-fashioned love story try Courting Emma Howe, this is more realistic of the times. Since it is out-of-print, try your local library first.

Fun Read
MacGyver meets Little House on the Prairie would sum up this adventure. Her constant prayer is, "Help me, Lord" while she does what needs to be done in the small shack they live in. Then one night, a stranger shows up and almost dies. She and the girls rescue him and find out he is Clay McClellan, the twin brother of her deceased husband. Feeling obligated to care for the woman and children his long lost brother left behind, he corners her into marrying him. She puts up a fight but decides to go along with it in order to have her ranch back.

However, there's trouble brewing. Judd Mason wants that ranch and makes a plan to kill them in order to get it. Meanwhile, Clay feels inferior to his brother who seems to have done everything right while he (Clay) keeps messing things up. Sophie is determined to do the chores and fix up the place as she's always done, and her daugthers, who adore Clay, pretend to be helpless in order to soothe his ego. So Sophie and Clay constantly butt heads and argue, but even in the midst of it, there's humor.

Mary Connealy does a remarkable job with comedy, and this light-hearted book will be a fun read for anyone in the mood for a little romance and suspense.

Calico Canyon: Lassoed in Texas, Book 2 (Truly Yours Romance Club #24)
Golden Days: Alaskan Historical Series #2 (Heartsong Presents #744)

About Petticoat Ranch (Lassoed in Texas, Book 1) detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #32806 in Books

Published on: 2007-02-01

Original language: English

Number of items: 1

Binding: Paperback

288 pages

Product Description

Sophie Edwards is doing just fine, until a strange-yet oddly familiar-man rides into her life, insisting on rescuing her and her four daughters. After seeing the trailer for upcoming movie, I was intriqued enough to read this book. I was disappointed.

The reviewer from Publishers Weekly sees the novel as coming to grips with a new type of criminal. Sorry, but those type of deviants have been with us since the dawn of recorded history. What the novel is about is moral relavancy - every character in this book has a flaw which the author uses to state that there are no heroes. The good guys all have flaws that more or less makes them impotent against evil. The "good guy" - Sheriff Bell - loses in the end and the evil sociopath succeeds.

Sorry, but I just cannot recommend this book to anyone.

So-So
Definitely not up to McCarthy standards. This book is confusing. Not realistic at all. I skipped the last 25% because it was so unbelievable and impossibly unreal.

The villain is terrifying, actions and motives
The villain is a human terminator! He follows rules of conduct not governed by morality. They're a program that must be executed. It's frightening to think someone like this could exist in the world....

Readers should have a well formed sense of reality and self. Very disturbing, and not for the timid or young (i.e., inexperienced).

About No Country for Old Men detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #25621 in Books

Published on: 2006-07-01

Released on: 2006-07-11

Original language: English

Number of items: 1

Binding: Paperback

309 pages

Product Description

In his blistering new novel, Cormac McCarthy returns to the Texas-Mexico border, setting of his famed Border Trilogy. The tale of its mangling by the studio that took it out of Peckinpah's hands is as well known as the butchery that accompanied Orson Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons or Touch Of Evil, or Erich Von Stroheim's Greed. But, Columbia studio's restored 136 minute long DVD version of the film really shines. Yet, some critics have still damned the film as a `noble failure' or the like. This is too bad since the film is likely the most realistic and gritty Western ever made, and on the heels of Ride The High Country (1962) showed Peckinpah as a director with a bright future.
It is filled with great shots, a great lead performance by Charlton Heston as the lead character, Major Amos Dundee, and terrific supporting performances. Heston's Dundee is a great character, and may be Heston's role. Heston is the epitome of intelligent machismo, in a role that a John Wayne would have butchered, and that Kirk Douglas could never have gotten away with. Dundee is frustrated, but we never know why. Yes, he had been sentenced to a job as a prison warder, and we get hints of his past troubles. But, then we get this wonderful interlude, at the start of the third act of the film, where he falls in love with a Mexican prostitute, Melinche (Aurora Clavell), after being shot and diving into drink. Then he recovers, to face off against his main antagonist, and perseveres, and survives.
Despite critical claims that the film loses its way, this is not so. In fact, the fact that the film does not end in faux heroism is one of its virtues that makes it so relevant today, especially in light of its many parallels with the ongoing Iraq War. The only negatives the film really has are an obligatory- but thankfully brief, love angle forced upon Peckinpah by the studio, and a bit too hammy performance by Richard Harris as Dundee's main antagonist, a Confederate soldier and longtime rival of Dundee's, Captain Benjamin Tyreen, who is forced to accompany him on his quest to track down and kill an Apache band of murderers. Harris agrees, but only `until the Apache is taken or destroyed.' Harris's British accent is all wrong (even if the film implies he had a European education to explain it away by his stating, `Never underestimate the value of a European education'), as he is supposedly Irish, and his character is probably the least realistic of all the ones in the film- something more out of a swashbuckler film.
The screenplay was written by Harry Julian Fink, Oscar Saul, and Peckinpah, and it's terrific. The film also has a sepia tinge to it that is just about right for the film, and is glorious in its 2.35:1 aspect ratio.... Major Dundee, the film, also succeeds because of its realistic subplots, great acting, and some terific scenes, such as an early comic scene involving Dundee trying to teach Graham how to smoke, and the gory aftermath of a battle that shows much scarring, and ends with the men dying days after their wounds, not in glorious battle. Yet, Major Dundee, the character, succeeds because he is a great survivor, and one of Heston's greatest roles. Just a couple of years later, Heston would use many of the signature traits he developed in this role and apply them to his great role as Colonel George Taylor, in Planet Of The Apes, as well as his other classic sci fi characters in Soylent Green and The Omega Man. The film is an unintended classic and a near-great film, despite both the studio interference and Peckinpah's tendency to gild his filmic lilies. What it might have been without either of them- better or worse, is anyone's guess. What it is, however, needs no guess. Major Dundee is a hell of a good film, and far better than many other overrated Western classics.

A personal revenge, miles away from home that has nothing to do with supposed ideals !
Amos Dundee (Charlton Heston) is an outlaw officer of the Army of the United States who - after the bloody massacre by Apache Indians - decides - against all the odds - to search and annihilate the Apache leader no matter how he has to spent, travel or sweat. So he breaks the rules and gathers a singular battalion, composed by drifters, drunks, renegades, Confederate prisoners and even a horse stealer. His personal revenge in what concerns the endless desire of revenge maybe compared with Ahbab in Moby Dick. He won't rest until his personal mission has been over over.

Of course, this won't be the sole problem, he will have to raffle other obstacles to get what he proposes himself. He dislikes his men under his command and many of them criticizes him his personal ambition masked of military ambiance. Major Dundee` s progressive demolishing process as human being might be seen in two clever sequences, the first when he is hurt by an enemy arrow and then when he is caught in the act by his supposed illusion (the always beautiful Senta Berger) with a sudden affair with a Mexican India.

Sam Peckinpah built step by step a memorable masterpiece, without leaving any single hole in the script. Many of these personages and similar situations would be reflected four years later in "The wild bunch" . But he personal confrontation between Heston and Harris is perhaps the main dramatic support all the way through. As we know the violence in Peckinpah is peerless. Just a few directors in the history of cinema have been capable to describe and even pulsate the violence as organic expression or vital necessity of the human nature without falling in gore category. Perhaps the only flaw has been the hasty final after the bloody encounter in the river with French lancers leaves us with a bitter taste, and one leaves the hall with a firm sensation that something happened in the edition hall.

Another remarkable highpoint in the career of this singular filmmaker. Don't miss it!

Men of War
Soldiers at war. Every time I see Major Dundee it leaves me with a since of lose. Even in victory. They kill. They die. Not very glamorous. Trying honest tell of the cost of battle.

About Major Dundee (The Extended Version) detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #6454 in DVD

Brand: Sony

Released on: 2005-09-20

Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)

Aspect ratio: 2.35:1

Formats: AC-3, Color, Dolby, Dubbed, DVD-Video, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC

Original language: English, French

Subtitled in: English, French, Japanese, Korean

Dubbed in: French, Japanese

Number of discs: 1

Dimensions: .20 pounds

Running time: 123 minutes

Product Description

A union army officer volunteers to chase a savage indian leader through mexico. I have watched it dozens of times and it never grows old. It is a witty, funny, dusty, tough, mean, fabulously entertaining Western. Burt Lancaster, Ossie Davis, Shelley Winters and Telly Savalas play their roles with masterful technique. I consider it a 5 star movie.

LANCASTER AND DAVIS AT THEIR BEST

This movie is one that is very easy to like, while having a solid western theme it also contains some comedy. With Shelley Winters and Telly Savalas offering up great lines too. Look for childhood friend of Lancaster's, and earlier trapeze partner, Nick Cravat, in the film as well. And Nick even has a speaking line or two in this one.

Made at a time of Hollywood anti-hero and comedic westerns, this movie holds enough realism and action to satisfy most western movie buffs. Even the Kiowa Indians look fairly real.

So whistle up your horse and ride out to help Burt recover those hard to recover furs, and just maybe Shelley as well!

Semper Fi.

A solid and enjoyable film.
Sydney Pollack's "The Scalphunters" (1968) is a briskly-paced, revisionist Western with an entertaining script and equally entertaining performances by a strong cast. Given the title, some viewers may expect a serious and gritty drama about the depraved scalp hunters who plagued the American West. However, in actuality, this well-written light-hearted film is a clever blend of both comedic and dramatic elements.

The story is complicated, yet easy to follow: Joe Bass (Burt Lancaster) is a grizzled, Bible-reciting fur trapper with a monomaniacal attachment to his beaver pelts. Held up by Indians, Bass is forced to exchange his pelts for the tethered Joseph Lee (Ossie Davis), an escaped slave who formerly served an educated family in Louisiana. Bass and a reluctant Lee pursue the Indians but, through a twist of fate, Bass' furs fall into the hands of scalp hunters led by Jim Howie (the always engaging Telly Savalas), a burly ruffian henpecked by his prostitute-girlfriend Kate (a fussy, cigar-chewing Shelley Winters).

It is the latter performances which is the key to the film's success. Lancaster, Davis, Savalas and Winters effortlessly spin out humorous performances. And the best scenes are the humorous ones, such as when Savalas yells at Winters' to stop singing those damn Mormon songs or when Savalas defiantly tells Lancaster that he will kill him then steps on a cactus while returning to the wagon.

Yet for all its amusing tomfoolery, the film has a message: The axis of that message revolves around the dyadic relationship between trapper Joe Bass and the slave Joseph Lee; their hopes and their prejudices. Bass desires only to reacquire his pelts and Lee desires only to escape to Mexico. Both are reluctant to help the other. Each holds the other in contempt: Bass views Lee as a meek slave, and Lee views Bass as an uneducated hick. But, in the final scene, both characters are covered in mud; the color of their skin obscured. It is in this scene they find their equality, and one grasps the subtly of the film's psychology.

About The Scalphunters detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #21827 in DVD

Brand: TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOME ENT

Released on: 2005-05-17

Rating: NR (Not Rated)

Aspect ratio: 1.33:1

Formats: Closed-captioned, Color, Dubbed, DVD-Video, Full Screen, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC

Original language: English

Subtitled in: English, French, Spanish

Dubbed in: Spanish

Number of discs: 1

Dimensions: 1.00 pounds

Running time: 102 minutes

Product Description

OscarÂ(r)-winning* director Sydney Pollack delivers a "rousing good show" (The Film Daily) with this fast-paced western full of "irresistible humor" and "delightful ironies" (MotionPicture Herald). The dynamic of having brothers acting as brothers seems to have been the perfect cast. This movie should stand along side the other great western classics like The Sacketts, or The outlaw Josie Wales.

Gimmicky, but it works -- just don't expect a classic
Walter Hill's 1980 Western The Long Riders (his first film after the 1979 cult classic The Warriors) starts out with a gimmick -- the casting of famous Hollywood brothers as famous outlaw brothers -- but ends up as a fair addition to the genre (and it reportedly began its life as a musical!).

The main reason most people will get curious about The Long Riders is the cast. But look at that cast! It is likely to be the only place you'll see such a parade of prominent Hollywood families all together in one film.

Here's the lineup: David Carradine as Cole Younger, Keith Carradine as Jim Younger, Robert Carradine as Bob Younger; Stacy Keach as Frank James, James Keach as Jesse James; Dennis Quaid as Ed Miller, Randy Quaid as Clell Miller; Christopher Guest as Charlie Ford, Nicholas Guest as Robert Ford. (Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges were originally offered the Ford roles but were reportedly unable to clear their schedules.)

Among this band of brothers, I was pleasantly surprised that James Keach -- whose work I was only passingly familiar with thus far and had found mostly unmemorable -- was the real standout. He draws the eye every time he is on the screen, not least because his face seems to have been carved out of rock. There's hardly a rounded surface to be seen, which just serves to make every emotion more intensely expressed.

In retrospect, this should not have been too surprising, given that the film was originally conceived by the brothers Keach as a vehicle for themselves. The familial aspect does serve to make the interrelations of the characters more palpable (unless that was just my own projection), and it's certainly worth at least one viewing, but The Long Riders is unlikely to be seen historically as anything more than a minor contribution to Western film.

Probably the best of the James Gang movies...
This 1980 release shows, fictionally yet creditably, the history of Frank and Jesse's career as bank and train robbers. There are lots of scenes with only the Younger brothers or the Miller brothers, much like the recent "Assassination of Jesse James" bomb with Brat Pitt spent much of its time with lesser and later gang members. The difference in the two films is astounding: in "Long Riders" there is coherent dialogue, enunciated clearly, and many daytime events, so the viewer can really see what's happening. The newest James movie concentrates on the decay of the gang after the botched Northfield, Minnesota bank job, when the Youngers and Millers are no more. It builds up so slowly to the killing of Jesse by Bob Ford that one gets bored early on, and while the climax of that movie is done well, by the time it arrives one does not care. "The Long Riders" however, is long on action. Many are shot, some are killed, and during the Northfield disaster, bloody wounds are depicted graphically. The musical score by Ry Cooder is excellent, the cinematography is nice, the performances, by using the gimmick of real brothers playing brothers, are all good. If you were disappointed by the Brad Pitt film, rent this one. Better yet, watch this one FIRST, then consider the "Assassination" movie to be an overly long sequel.

About The Long Riders detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #8678 in DVD

Brand: TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOME ENT

Released on: 2001-03-20

Rating: R (Restricted)

Aspect ratio: 1.85:1

Formats: Anamorphic, Closed-captioned, Color, DVD-Video, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC

Original language: English, French

Subtitled in: Spanish, French

Dubbed in: Spanish

Number of discs: 1

Dimensions: .25 pounds

Running time: 99 minutes

Product Description

Jesse James and his gang of outlaws ride again in this "extraordinary" (LA Herald-Examiner) western that pulsates with hard-driving action and electrifying drama. But when the mighty Pinkerton detective agency swears to track them down, these criminals must face an awesome enemy that will stop at nothing to see them behind bars...or dead! Dancy believes this barbarian act has closed the episode. He is wrong. He has interfered with Washburn's ambitions, and this is something the mining tycoon will not allow.
Pinkertons, hired assassins, and aggrieved bystanders escalate the feud until it pulls in all the moneyed interests and power brokers in Nevada. And of course, Gunsmoke itself is some of the best television ever: taut plots, nuanced character studies, solid acting, careful attention to detail in the sets and costumes. Everyone should see this one first. The recent movie would have been better if it had followed the original story telling.

A Western Classic, Forget the Execrable Remake!
"Destination Tokyo" director Delmar Daves' "3:10 to Yuma" (1957) qualifies as one of the classic suspense westerns of the 1950s. Furthermore, in the larger context of westerns, this frontier drama follows in the boot falls of "High Noon" since it concerns a showdown between hero and villain based on a time deadline. Everything about this oater is solid and realistic with strong acting by a competent cast. Composer George Duning's haunting score heightens the tension in scenarist Halsted Welles' spartan screenplay. Welles' also penned another big western "The Hanging Tree" (1959) with Gary Cooper. Welles does an exceptional job of capturing the ironic essence of Leonard's short story, the first of the bestselling author's work to reach the big-screen.

"3:10 to Yuma" opens with a close-up of parched earth somewhere in the Arizona territory. The camera tilts up to show a stagecoach crossing the landscape in long shot and then the stage swings around toward the camera and its galloping six-horse team hauls the vehicle past the camera trailing a plume of dust. Daves concisely establishes in this one take the inhospitable nature of the surroundings. One of the themes is then man versus nature. Later, we learn that a drought has devastated the area. Seasoned lyricist Ned Washington's words--as sung by vocalist Frankie Lane at his most doleful--enhances this western. An entire sub-genre of sagebrushers emerged in the 1950s that opened with images of horsemen riding through the opening credits with singers such as Frankie Lane or Tex Ritter warbling an atmospheric theme song.

Glenn Ford makes a memorable entrance as ruthless but sardonic outlaw Ben Wade. The notorious Wade gang hold up a stagecoach. During the robbery, the stage driver gets the drop on the Wade gang member atop the coach and shoves a gun into his back. The brave driver threatens to kill the Wade gang member if the outlaws don't cease and desist. No sooner has he delivered his ultimatum than Wade himself rides up and guns down his own man and the stage driver.

The hero of "3:10 to Yuma" is a small potatoes rancher, Dan Evans (Van Heflin of "Shane") who is waging a losing battle against nature for lack of rain. Dan's cattle are dying, and all our hero requires is $200 dollars so he can obtain six months water rights from a nearby rancher. Unfortunately, Dan is dirt poor. Furthermore, he is stubborn and self-reliant and balks at the idea of seeking a loan from the bank. There is nothing flashy about Heflin's performance or wardrobe. Truly, he is a hero behind the 8-ball.

After the Wade gang rob the Butterfield Stage Company of a gold shipment, they gallop brazenly into Bisbee, Arizona Territory, to alert the local constabulary about the hold-up. In the saloon, where they are drinking, they explain that they couldn't thwart the thieves. The marshal (Ford Rainy of "Flaming Star") gathers a posse, but one of them, the town drunk Alex Potter (Henry Jones of "Vertigo"), is late and rides out after the posse has left. Meanwhile, Wade disperses his gang across the border and tells them to rendezvous with him in Nogales. Wade hangs around the saloon to sweet talk young beautiful Emmy (Felicia Farr of "Charlie Varrick") and they get romantic. During this interval, the posse run into Dan and the Butterfield Stage owner. They describe the gang and the marshal realizes then that the cattle drovers back at the saloon were the Wade gang. Alex rides up and tells them that the drovers left town but one of them stayed. The posse heads back to town. Dan distracts Wade in the saloon while the marshal sneaks up behind him and arrests him. The Butterfield Stage owner (Robert Emhardt of "The Stone Killer") offers $200 to anybody that will help escort Wade to the train station for the titular three-ten to Yuma. Initially, Dan refuses but decides that the $200 dollars is worth the risk. Nobody else wants to get in on the money except Henry Potter. For the remainder of the movie, Dan and Wade share the upstairs bridal suite in the hotel while they await the train. Wade's second-in-command Charlie Prince (Richard Jaeckel of "The Dirty Dozen") rides off to prepare a reception for our hero and Wade. Eventually, the gang capture Henry Potter and string him up in the hotel. During the suspenseful wait in the hotel, Ben Wade begins to have a grudging admiration for Dan Evans. When they make dash for the train, Ben actually helps Dan out and they get aboard the train unscathed. Although this ending has been called implausible, I don't think it is anything of the sort. Ben Wade is a dangerous, egotistical killer who has the attitude of a cat playing with a mouse. He is so confident of himself that he plays along with Dan, helps him against his own gang, but ultimately you know that Ben Wade is never going to serve a day in jail. He proved at the beginning that he was willing to kill one of his own men.

"3:10 to Yuma" isn't the first time that Glenn Ford played a villainous killer. He portrayed a corrupt, maniacal judge in "The Man from Colorado," and before that he specialized in bad guys that turned good in westerns, like "Texas" and "The Desperados." Charles Lawton's stark black and white photography combined with striking camera angles that thrust us into the vortex of the action go a long way toward making the action palatable. Eventually, this drama boils down to two men shut up in an upstairs hotel room as they wait for the arrival of the "3:10 to Yuma" train. Daves and Lawton generate a lot of suspense throughout this western but none more tangible than at the end when our hero and villain approach the puffing train and are obscured by clouds of the steam while the outlaw gang stalk them

Much Better Than the Remake
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: From the Secret Files of Harry Pennypacker
Cheyenne Warrior: The Original Screenplay with Author Commentary
Shadow Watcher
Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake

This 1957 release is seldom mentioned in the same sentence as HIGH NOON, THE SEARCHERS or SHANE, but like those classic films, it is one of the great westerns.

Certainly it is a much better film than its 2007 remake with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

Notorious, albeit charismatic, outlaw Glenn Ford and his gang rob the Butterfield stagecoach, killing the driver. Captured after he dallies for a romantic interlude with saloon girl Felicia Farr, Ford is then transferred to a nearby town to await the afternoon train to the Yuma prison. His guards are two paid volunteers, Van Heflin, a hard-working rancher who desperately needs the money, and the town drunk, Henry Jones.

The suspense builds as Heflin and Ford hole up in a local hotel room, knowing that the outlaw's men will probably arrive to free their leader before the train stops and that Heflin will be no match for them.

Delmer Daves directed this superb nail-biter that emphasizes character without sacrificing action, and which looks fantastic in black-and-white.

Richard Jaeckel as Ford's chief henchman, Robert Emhardt as Mr. Butterfield and Leora Dana as Heflin's wife co-star. Frankie Laine sings the title song over the film's opening credits.

© Michael B. She's been taking care of her mother for so long and now that her mother has died, she's finally free of responsibility and she's determined to make up for lost time. Armed with the contract for a job opportunity, she steps off the bus in Round the Bend, Texas and is immediately thrust into the wild and crazy nightlife of this sleepy little town. Mac Hollister comes to her rescue from a slightly loco, wannabe Injun and he's pondering the possibility of an affair when she tells him that she's his newest cook. Mac takes one look at her and knows this manicured little honey blonde is the worst kind of distraction and he does his best to dissuade her from the ranch life. Jessi has been cooped up for so long and being out in the bright, wide open brings joy to her heart and she enjoys teasing this bad boy cowboy right out of his mind. Not one to beat around the bush, Mac and Jessi quickly fall into a red, hot love affair that is unbelievably spicy and naughty. Their scorching love play will set fire to your bed sheets and pretty soon you are going to create your own sexual to-do list based off this book alone!

Ay Carumba! This was scorching. Whew! I haven't read very many Sarah McCarty books, but this was the most blush inducing. Silver bullet + Mac = HOLY %$#!@! I had to tell my husband about this scene and now he won't put his back to me. He's facing off against me like we're gunslingers or something. Geez.

While Mac might be a walking, talking testament to the phrase, "They grow things bigger in Texas" this bad boy has a soft side and it's easily bruised. When Jessi is hurt on the ranch, Mac immediately lays down the law and tries to wrap her in cotton wool. Jessi isn't having any of that and demands that before he takes her heart, he needs to heal his own first.

I have to say, I am not a member of PETA. But I was really squeamish about the whole chicken/axe scene. Mac is trying to push Jessi away and one of his plans is to make ranch life unbearably hard for her and he forces her to slaughter her own chickens. She's got the chicken and she's got the axe and I nearly stopped reading. I've read books where the heroine is horrifically abused. I've read scenes of unbearable torture (Heartsick, anyone?) and I've never felt as I did with that chicken. I'm sad to say if that axe had fallen by her hands, I would have had to have stopped reading. I was seriously bracing myself and I was gingerly turning the pages. I'm happy to say that the chicken lived but I also think I lost respect for myself. Oh, well.

The ending of this book was a little abrupt. Especially after all the many sex scenes. (what did you expect?) But I thought it was also so poignant and sweet. Mac has some momma issues and Jessi demands that he deals with it and when he comes back for her and tells her about his therapy, I thought it was absolutely wonderful that Sarah McCarty included his feelings. It gave meaning to what is essentially just hot, steamy erotica, and I thought it was empowering. There are two close but no cigar menage scenes (though I would classify the second one as a menage) with Mac's friend, Zach, and I really, really hope that Sarah McCarty continues this series with his story. Jessi leads this poor guy on not once, but twice! I felt so bad for him!

I highly recommend this book. It's really sexy and also really, really funny. Especially the first half of the book. Mac's Law will keep you panting and laughing and I really enjoyed it.

Mac's Law
Round The Bend, Texas was a place that everyone knew everyone else's business. It was no secret that Mac Hollister had been looking for a cook to work on his ranch the Circle H. When JC Sterns answered his ad, he was relieved until a got a good look at her. He was expecting a big man that would fit in with his men, but what he got instead was a petite sexy woman. He was instantly attracted to her thus coming to the conclusion she had to go. Mac tried everything to get rid of her even stooping to some underhanded sneaky tricks that were beneath him. When he realized he was stuck with her, he decided to get her out of his system by seducing her.

Jessie Sterns was finally starting to live her life. She took the job as cook as a first step in that direction. She had taken care of her ailing mother for the past decade, and when she finally succumbed to Alzheimer's, Jessie felt free for the first time in her life. She had so much to make up for, and she planned to start by dragging Mac into her bed. She had no experience with anything, and planned to try everything.

What started out as a short-term mind blowing affair quickly escalated to an inferno that neither Jessie nor Mac could control. She was falling for him hard, but there was something he was holding back from her. She knew he cared for her, but there was a darkness that she couldn't touch or get near. Jessie knew he had some issues to deal with, and had to do it on his own, or they could never be together permanently.

Jessie and Mac are characters full of heart that have chemistry chemistry chemistry! This book is sexy, erotic, and just plain hot. They both also have their own story to tell, and they are heartbreaking. There is a very good balance between the eroticism and story. Definite must read.

CAN'T SLEEP WITHOUT HIM
WOW - I want to see this series continue with the brothers, uncles, cousins - just keep it going. I could not put this book down - the family was disgruntled with my read! Sarah is a hot author with hot characters and the sex is sooooo desireable with this totally alpha male. Jessica Sterns has always been a good girl, doing right, dating right, following all the right rules. Now, at twenty-nine, thanks to a life change, she's got a whole lot of catching up to do, and a whole lot of bad girl to let loose. It's just a question of finding the right man. At first glance, Mac Hollister appeared to be just that man. The tall rugged rancher practically oozed testosterone, while his indolent posture, easy confidence and raw masculinity just screamed "bad boy". The kind of man women spin dark fantasies around. The kind of man she's looking for. The minute the honey-blonde sets her dainty foot on the sidewalk in Round The Bend, Mac knows he's in trouble. From the top of her head with its long French braid, to the tips of her toes with their delicate pink polish, this woman defines elegance. Not the kind of woman he prefers, but no amount of logic can dissuade his interest once he sees Jessie's smile. He's always been a sucker for a sense of humor. Especially when it comes packaged with a killer body and an equally killer wit. Mac expects their affair to be short, sweet and safe, but he soon discovers that beneath that delicate image lurks a woman who can handle all the "bad boy" he can throw at her. She's everything he never expected to find, and what started out short-term soon becomes a relationship that will demand a compromise he's not sure he can make in order to keep the one woman he can't imagine living without.

List Price:

$18.99

Amazon
Price:

$13.76 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Details

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/141995170X/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
Hope you guys had a great weekend
Cheers

The Proposition

The Proposition

To day I find introduce you this The Proposition I make this product appeal to young people
BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Great value, great movie.
I think the title says it all. For this much money you can't go wrong if you are a Western fan....even though this takes place in Australia.

Great picture/sound, and a great price.

A Unique Western
The Proposition definitely stands out in a crowd. The beautiful camerawork and intense emotional drama compensate for the somewhat slow pace of the film. However, its' unconventional, graphic climax is well worth waiting for. There is no good or bad guy in the movie; it's only people, motivated to do good or bad. And these motivations make the film stand out and give it a very realistic tone. If you get a chance, see this one.

Best quality Blu ray for a bargin price.
This is a gritty western with great performances and is the Blu ray that shows you can have great quality for a low price.

About The Proposition detail

Amazon Sales Rank: #11875 in DVD

Released on: 2006-09-19

Rating: R (Restricted)

Aspect ratio: 1.85:1

Formats: Color, DVD-Video, NTSC, Widescreen

Original language: English

Subtitled in: Spanish

Number of discs: 1

Running time: 104 minutes

List Price:

$14.98

Amazon
Price:

$11.49 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Details

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GIW9I2/?tag=softcafe-20"rel="nofollow" >

Source From softcafe-20
I would be grateful if you would give me the Interview
Cheers !.

McLintock! This is the best copy of the movie I have found. This is the authorized version from Paramount and it's perfect. It is also widescreen so nothing is cut off, you see the whole film. I have had other versions of this film on DVD and they were not worth watching. I think some of the other reviewers have this verion confused with those, otherwise they would have rated this one higher.

McClintock
Great movie! Cute story. Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne have a magnetic chemistry which makes this movie work. Chill Wills is always fabulous in his supporting role. Comedy, romance, love, stubborn pride, etc.
Nice romantic comedy with a western setting.

McLintock!
This was a fun movie when I was young, and still is. It really is pretty sexist by today's standards, but still enjoyable to watch.

About McLintock! Lots of action and comedy too. One of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies. Shirley MacLaine is perfect as "Sister Sara". Highly recommended.

Clint Eastwood
While I'm not a huge Clint Eastwood fan this is one of the two movies he is in I thoroughly enjoy (the other is Paint Your Wagon). This one also has Shirley MacLaine who I love and the fact that this is a comedy/drama makes it all that much better.
